What is the Maine Foodscapes Garden Project (FGP)?
Maine Foodscapes believes in access to local, nutritious and delicious food for all of our residents and is dedicated to bridging this gap. The purpose of the FGP is to inspire and educate community members throughout York County and Cumberland County to grow their own food. Our goal is to provide gardening resources for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.
Maine Foodscapes Garden Recipients benefit from our program through the following materials and services:
-Raised bed gardens or container gardens at their homes - Soil and compost - Wide selection of seeds - Various vegetable seedlings - Gardening mentorship - Free access to gardening, cooking, and wellness workshops throughout the year - Access to a growing network of new gardeners in Southern Maine -A Vegetable Growing Guide
We work to partner with food-insecure households in order to increase accessibility to sufficient, safe, and nutritious foods.
Our work is a creative approach to building food security. We put the power of growing food into the hands of community members themselves. As a result, we promote a healthier, more resilient, and equitable community for all. In 2018, with seed grant funding from New England Grassroots Environment Fund and a partnership with Garbage To Garden, Maine Foodscapeslaunched the Maine Foodscapes Garden Project (FGP).
Please join us in helping make healthy, safe, affordable food accessible to all.
